Is my new Area 51m R2 Underperforming?

  • 4

Hello everybody, I'm new to this forum. A month ago i buy the new Alienware Area 51m R2 and a week ago I received what I thought was a beast. Here's my spec:

OS: Windows 10 Home 64bit
CPU: 10th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 10700K (8-Core, 16MB Cache, 3.8GHz to 5.1GHz w/Turbo Boost Max 3.0)
GPU: NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) RTX 2070 SUPER(TM) 8GB GDDR6 (notebook)
RAM: 32GB, 2x16GB, DDR4, 2933MHz
MONITOR: 17.3" FHD (1920 x 1080) 144Hz 9ms 300-nits 72% NTSC color gamut with NVIDIA-GSYNC technology

With this configuration, during the pre-sale customization, I had to have a 3DMark TimeSpy score of about 8500. Testing it I only got nearly 2000 (2000 for GPU, 10000 for CPU, approximately).
On the website of UL Benchmark (3DMark Timespy) this GPU should obtain the same score displayed on dell website.

I have spent almost 2500€ and it was not what i expected. Calling the support they told me that refurbished parts are used, even for the new purchase. Is that true? If it were it would be crazy.

This is my score at stock setting (without overclock) ad without undervolt.

So, my question: Is my new Area 51m R2 Underperforming?

You could have saved about 1000 having purchased/configured a different brand which would run better. Next up you are saying that you purchased a laptop based on some scroes you saw on a website without doing the research into how that number was achieved? Without question the GPU is going to be throttled due to heat issues.

Did you click the link on the website "guide to Scores" to read about how the independent UL listed lab got those scores? I doubt it. https://benchmarks.ul.com/guide-to-scores

The biggest issue with people buying gaming laptops is tey do not know how to research and properly configure the investment to get the most out of it. I have had several laptops over the years and learned what to and what not to buy or put into my laptop.

This answer is useless... I already have and Alienware M15 and an Alienware M17. I do not have heat issue because my temperature stay below 50°. In my M17 i have an Nvidia GTX 980m and in i7 3740... with 24 gb of Ram and i reach nearly 4000 in 3dmark timespy benchmark... these GPU and CPU these are worse than the ones I have in the new Alienware Area 51m. All the Benchmark that I test on my self (Time Spy, FFXV benchamark, Cinebench, Userbench, and so many other) and a lot of game (the witcher 3, overwatch, COD, Battlefiled, Shadow of the tomb raider, fortnite, and so many other at full graphics setting) i dont even reach 30 fps (other user on youtube, who have made some test, reach a much higher number of fps, if not triple)  and my temperature still below 50°. Before buy it i made my research, read a lot of review for 2-2.5 week... and then, i choose to buy it... So mr. "IDoubtIt" I still thinking that my laptop is underperforming and do you want to know why? i try to test my component with support assist all the test go ok but every test only reach max 25 fps (with my alienware m15 gtx765m i do the same test and i reach 60-70 fps). Anyway thanks you for your time with this useless answer.
