Steam Horse Fest is Live!
Grab your tack and unhold those horses, everyone, Steam’s Horse Fest is live! Like horses to grain, it’s time to stampede on over to Steam and grab them at a discount. There are all kinds of games here to feed that wild spirit that range from cozy sims to high-adrenaline RPGs. I’ve compiled a list of my favorites here, so run like they left the pen open, as it’s happening now through February 23rd!
Rival Stars Horse Racing: Desktop Edition
Restore the family ranch and make a name for yourself inthe horse community! You can train, race, breed, and raise your horses in this Horsey Sim. The graphics do a fabulous job of making these horses look majestic and alive. You can even race your horses against real people in the online multiplayer mode! Is your horse a winner? Keep that lineage going by breeding! Looking for a more casual riding experience? Go for a calming ride to enjoy the scenery from the ranch to the Swiss Alps. No matter what you’re looking for, this game offers the complete horse experience.
Red Dead Redemption 2
Wanting something with some true grit? Look no further than Red Dead Redemption 2! Tame the horses you find in the wild as Arthur Morgan and enjoy that true wild west experience. Although your character comes back after each gruesome death, your horse does not. So gallop at your own risk! You’d hate to lose that beautiful white steed you trudged through the snow for… *sniffle.* Of course, RDR2 has an incredible story and many other period-appropriate activities to keep you busy, like fishing, hunting, robbing trains, dying of a mysterious illness, tanning and selling pelts, and interacting with townsfolk. It’s a must-play for a reason!
Umamusume: Pretty Derby
“Lecksea, I like people, horses, and anime. Could you suggest something with all three?” Of course I can! Umamusume: Pretty Derby is a free-to-play game that lets you raise and train each Umamusume to achieve their dreams and fulfill their destiny to their fullest potential. These runners were born to compete, and it’s your job to help them win. But it’s not just racing; there’s a gripping story, in-game events, and many ways to dress up your Umamusume.
A Tiny Sticker Tale
Let’s take it on down to wholesome town with A Tiny Sticker Tale. You’ll play as Flynn, the donkey (not technically a horse, but Equidae all the same), as he journeys across Figori Island and harnesses the power of a very special sticker album. This 2-hour-long adventure is perfect for someone wanting something cozy they can finish in one sitting. The graphics are fun and colorful, reminding me of an interactive kids’ book, and the adventure has lots of side content, which makes it playable again and again. A Tiny Sticker Tale would make a great palette cleanser and something you could play with or around your kids.
The Pony Factory
Once the kids are asleep, it’s time to jump into some FPS horror! The Pony Factory is a short, creepy, black-and-white, minimalist game in which you’ll traverse tight quarters to shoot the unfortunate souls who have been transformed into skeletal horses. Short and sweet, this game offers satisfying kills and challenges you to get creative with grenades, flash bangs, and other tools you’ll find. A fun one to pick up if you only have a little time but want to get some FPS time in!
