Extremely upset with 2013 Alienware 18 Order

  • -1
I've ordered my new lappy on the 6th of August. Estimated delivery is 9th of September. I seem to have been offered a product that Dell do not actually have or have no means of obtaining in a timely fashion. Just before my purchase, I have been drawn to believe (by a Dell rep) that I should receive my new laptop within two weeks (at the latest) from receiving order confirmation. As it turns out, Dell was selling a product which they actually don't have. To me it looks like we're dealing with a company not capable with maintaining their solvency. I get the impression from Dell as they don't appreciate doing business with us and almost as if Dell encourages us to turn to their competition with future purchases. Within the last 12 months I have bought m17x R4 and now upgraded to the new m18 (gtx780m SLI), so I've spent quite a lot of money over the year. It is outrageous that we should be forced to wait for over a month to get our very expensive systems.

well, u must also know that these machine are not pre-build, meaning they will have to put your order in and process it. A lot of time they might even have to wait for part to be shipped. If you are looking to buy a fast one, the pre-build model will do. But the spec on those are probably the basic one.

You've got a point and I appreciate it (2-3 weeks of wait time). But they've specifically said that the delay is because they don't have the parts. It'd be normal for the sales reps be aware of their stock and advice the customers. Instead of driving them to a false conclusion that their system will arrive in a couple of weeks. Also, returning customers should be treated with some extra "love", don't you think? Of course, monopoly is at fault here...

"Sales" main objective is to sell, sell, sell. No "love" lost there buddy....

Look - that's the way it works. They need parts to make your machine. They must order the parts from the factory. They need to put them together. It takes time. IF you were Dell, would you stop selling a big product like that if you didn't have the parts for a couple of days? No. You would continue to sell it, and wait until the parts come in to fulfill your order. These systems are in high-demand, and you have to realize that.

They've ran out of 780M's. Presumably nvidia cannot supply, or they just misjudged demand. Same happened with the 680M's.

I have a similar problem, order was 16th of Sept and was promised (lied to) numerous times regarding what was actually holding my system up, it was cancelled twice, and i wish i even had an edd. after speaking with alot of people, i found one who knew what she was doing, "rica" customer service manager, she informed me my aurora r4, 4930k was held up by 2 parts, one which was the chassis that was expected this week and the other was the media card reader, that will arrive around oct 8-11, so with what they are leading to is , parts arrive by say oct 11, takes another 5 days to actually build, then a few more for shipping, i should be able to open my system around christmas time. This experience has made me reconsider ever using this company again, this is radically absurd, there are actual laws that protect consumers against things like this, this promised/ordered should be delivered within a reasonable time frame, as stated on their website when the lure you in with the 2 week ddd. joke of a company Ordered Custom Mac (which also outsources parts) and it was here in less than a week, custom system or not this is a joke for a company as big as dell. no wonder he's taking this thing private, hopefully he gets it under control before dell tanks hard on the consumer end. Smell ya

I have to comment on here as I received the total opposite treatment and service. I bought an Alienware 14 recently with quite a couple of upgrades and or changes, so lets say it wasn't a stock prebuilt machine. Dell informed me that the Laptop would take about 20 days to process and build and so forth before they ship, in actual fact I was made aware of this before I made the actual purchase. So if you don't like build time go shop somewhere else. Couple of days after my purchase I thought there was a problem with my billing info. I sent a email to Dell and phoned as well. The phone rep was the nicest guy ever and helped me out straight away, he even bumped my shipping up to one business day shipping free of charge for my inconvenience. Couple hours later I received an email back. This time it was another rep, telling me that all seems to be fine. Needles to say both Dell employees opened a case for me so that I could easily receive future help with this or other issues. Well lets fast forward a couple of days. I received a email the Saturday telling me that my precious cargo has shipped. that Tuesday morning 11:00 I picked it up from our Pack and Ship. So all in all one business day, just like the rep told me. The very next day I got an phone call and email asking me if I had a chance to pick the Laptop up as it has been delivered. I said yes and the rep asked me if I was happy with the Laptop. I said yes again. He asked if I had any other issues or if they can close my case.... I have to wonder if I myself would have been that thorough with a client. So in the end I got my Laptop in about 10 days. that's not even 2 weeks. Ive heard of Dell\Alienware producing bad service, but I was in contact with at least 3 reps not even to mention the guys that built this awesome flawless machine. Dell\Alienware = Best service and build quality. NUF SAID>
