My First Build!

  • 0
Came here to research buying an Alienware but Dell customer service Horror stories put me off buying one. If I'm paying a premium to buy Alienware I'd expect premium CS not some Dell rep trying to sell me support that should be included... So anyway Ended up deciding to build my own. Here be what I've bought so far. phantom820.jpg Got the White NZXT Phantom 820. Was worried about getting white but it looks great. $265AU from www.umart.com.au intro.jpg Took me ages to decide between getting a GTX690, 680 or 670. Went with 2 of these babies for $419AU Each from www.computeralliance.com.au. Great price given I've seen these as named the best all round 670 card and they were $30 cheaper than the stock asusDCII model and $80 cheaper than the EVGAFTW. Will be buying the Motherboard next. Any suggestions? Would like a nice gap(2 if slots possible) between the two cards

I'm sorry for the terrible support you got. Your not the only one who's been on that end of support don't worry. But at least your making a beast custom. Post pictures when you finish it ^_^

Heh, I didn't experience it first hand, just observed others getting shafted. As for my Beast, when finished will cost me about $3000 less than if I'd gone with Alienware and will be just as good for gaming if not better.

Ok still looking for a motherboard(most likely going with ASUS maximus v formula). I did pick up my PSU today though. 53719_l.jpg $239 AU from www.umart.com.

5304700122.jpg Picked this up for $339 AU from gamedude.com.au Would have preferred the one that was bundled with Assassins Creed 3 but no one in Aus seems to have it in stock. Could have gone for a cheaper board but this will have a nice gap between my cards and has better onboard sound or so I'm led to believe. Been lucky so far that I've been able to pick up everything locally and still get the lowest price available or very close to it.

Picked up another lot of stuff today. Intel-ivybridge-lga1155-i5-3570K-400x400 Apparently the one to get for gaming. $228 AU from www.umart.com corsair-h60.jpg $89 AU. Just to keep things cooler. g-skill-ripjaws-x-4gb-kit-ddr3-pc3-17000 $139 AU. Prolly my worst pick so far in terms of need/value. 16G at 2133MHZ??? win7homepremium.jpg Wasn't sure about getting 8. $98 AU $T2eC16V,!yUE9s6NEl6!BQVl8J!eNg~~60_35.J Need to hear stuff. $107 AU Next week ssd, monitor and optical drive!
