Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced is Coming!
It’s almost time to relive the life of Edward Kenway, the pirate‑turned‑assassin, in arguably one of Ubisoft’s best Assassin’s Creed titles. For those new to it, Black Flag was easily one of the coolest pirate games ever made. I still remember spending hours sailing across the Caribbean Sea aboard the Jackdaw, getting into naval battles, and even stopping to harpoon fish. It’s the kind of game that created a core memory for me, and probably for a lot of players too.

So when news started circulating about Black Flag getting a remake, I was immediately curious and started digging for more information. It’s been a while since the franchise’s title really clicked for me (I’m a firm believer the franchise stops being an Assassin’s Creed game at Unity, don’t come at me), so this is something I’m cautiously optimistic about. What do we know about it so far?
It’s reported that Black Flag Resynced is being developed using Ubisoft’s Anvil Engine, the same one they used for Shadows. Beyond the nostalgia, the Resynced version will also bring a full set of graphical and technical updates, from Raytraced Lighting with Global Illumination (RTGI) to Physically Based Rendering (PBR), among other improvements. Ubisoft also mentioned that the game is optimized and will run at a stable 60 FPS on consoles.
As for gameplay, the game will include a range of new features not found in the original to enhance the overall experience. Players will be able to recruit officers for the Jackdaw, each with their own unique abilities that will assist Edward in naval battles. Islands are also getting reworked and will have fresh encounters and rewards. As for the Jackdaw, there will be ship skins and animal companions as well, so it will be merrier than ever!
They also stated that the combat, stealth, and traversal will receive major updates. There will be new combat mechanics such as improved parrying, quicker weapon combos, and new enemy types. As for stealth, since it’s one of the core skills of being an Assassin, it’s also been enhanced with features like crouch-anywhere movement so Edward can be more stealthy on land, expanded Eagle Vision, and improved light and shadow detection. The parkour is also more fluid, so I’m hoping this will feel extremely satisfying, like the one in Unity!
If you’re a water-level enjoyer like me, the Resynced gave it an update as well! I loved how the water behaved in the original game, and it looks even more promising now. Take a look at what IGN recently posted here:
