For steam quests, when you launch the game through the browser, do I need to keep the browser opened for the progress to register propperly? Or can i close it?

Well first, no need to launch through browser (just only need to start quest on browser and then you could safely close it). You could play game either launching from Browser or Steam directly, browser not required to stay open.

The only thing the browser does is include a link that opens the game in Steam, which looks something like this: steam://run/2073850. You can run the game through Steam directly and it does the same exact thing.
